Can any concrete slab be polished?
Most structurally sound concrete slabs can be polished. The slab needs to be free of significant cracking or structural defects. Minor cracks can be stitched and repaired as part of the preparation process. Your installer will assess the slab condition and advise on suitability.
What level of sheen can be achieved?
Polished concrete can be finished anywhere from a matte honed look to a high-sheen reflective surface. The level of sheen depends on how many grinding passes are completed and how fine the final diamond tooling is. Most commercial installations choose a satin or medium-gloss finish.
How long does concrete polishing take?
A typical commercial space can be completed in 3 to 7 days depending on size, condition of the slab, and the level of finish specified. The floor is usable immediately after the final pass, with no curing time required.
Does polished concrete stain?
The lithium silicate densifier significantly reduces the porosity of the concrete, making it resistant to most common stains. For food and beverage environments, an additional stain guard can be applied for extra protection. Spills should still be cleaned up promptly.
What maintenance does polished concrete need?
Polished concrete requires very little maintenance. Regular dust mopping removes loose debris, and periodic damp mopping with a neutral pH cleaner keeps the surface in good condition. No waxing, stripping, or recoating is needed.
